August 2025 Compassion

63 year old Earl smiles and sincerely thanks us for caring.

Homeless people have recently become an unusually hot topic in the news. From Washington D.C. to California, homeless people are being forced to leave encampments with no place to go.

Change how we see the homeless

This past Sunday there was a wonderful article in The Dallas Morning News. Elisabeth Jordon, founder and CEO of The Human Impact writes “Change how we see the homeless.” The article highlights two main points: “Start by treating people with dignity and listening to their stories” and,  “To solve the issue of homelessness, we have to change. We have to stop pointing the finger at them and instead take a hard look at ourselves.”

The number one prayer concern we hear from our homeless friends is getting off the streets and needing a place to call home. The local shelters can only accommodate so many. Temporary and permanent housing efforts are good but there are still thousands that don’t have a place to live other than on the streets.

Our homeless brothers and sisters need temporary housing or a designated area with access to portable bathroom facilities, trash receptacles, fresh water, access to social services, and a pathway to escape homelessness.

5000 and Counting

Our volunteers and supporters have allowed us to assist more than five thousand people by giving out bags that contain food, water, personal care and safety items, socks, and a New Testament. Everyone gets a fresh hamburger, and the ladies additionally receive a backpack with personal care items just for woman.

However, our friends on the street need much more than food and water.

Throughout the Bible, we see countless instances where Jesus interacted with those that are less fortunate and most needy. His example teaches us that we are to extend compassion to the homeless, and those in need. God commands us to love our neighbors, and that includes homeless.
